Federal Tax Reform Roundtable: What Do Federal Tax Changes Mean for You and Your Business?

Earlier this summer, the Federal Department of Finance released a discussion paper and draft legislation proposing new tax rules for private corporations. The proposal outlines sweeping changes that could have a significant impact on many small businesses and professionals.

Join the Terrace & District Chamber of Commerce and MNP to learn about what is being proposed, how the changes could impact your business and family, and tax planning options you may want to consider now to minimize the impact if the changes move forward.

During this presentation, we also will be holding a round table discussion with Member of Parliament Nathan Cullen. This will be an opportunity for the Skeena-Bulkley MP to hear concerns from the business community around proposed federal tax changes that would negatively impact all small businesses - especially family businesses, farms and medical/dental practices.

PRESENTERS

Michael Johnson, CPA, CA is a Partner and Business Advisor with MNP based in Terrace. With more than 20 years of experience in public practice, Michael works with a diverse range of clients including private enterprises, professionals, First Nations and not-for-profit organizations. Jamie Kungel, CPA, CA is a Partner and the Regional Tax Leader for MNP’s Vancouver Island and Northern BC region. Jamie specializes in assisting clients with innovative tax strategies for corporate reorganizations, succession planning and estate planning. With more than a decade of experience, he works with privately owned businesses in a range of industries to assist with income splitting structures, minimizing taxes on death and reorganizing companies to transfer future growth to the next generation.
He can also help restructure companies to segregate business assets from inactive assets and make the company as tax-efficient as possible.

Nathan Cullen, was first elected in 2004, Nathan Cullen is the five-term Member of Parliament for Skeena–Bulkley Valley. Nathan has been a strong voice for the Northwest and British Columbia in Parliament, fighting for good jobs and a healthy environment. He is the NDP’s Critic for Democratic Reform and Ethics, and Deputy Critic for Finance.
